No More Paywall for Editor & Publisher Online [E&P]

This week, Editor & Publisher tore down its website paywall, allowing
visitors to view more of the magazine's exclusive content. "We have
not been big believers in paywalls," said Duncan McIntosh, president
of Duncan McIntosh Company, Inc. (DMC), which publishes E&P.

Web companies fear Google's reach [WashingtonPost]

As the tech giant spreads its reach, it is making new enemies who fear
that once Google steps onto their turf it will use its almighty search
engine to quash them. Now, these critics are pushing antitrust
officials to block some of Google's mergers or build a blockbuster
case against the search behemoth, reminiscent of the government's
battle with Microsoft.

Facebook's Hughes Says IPO Would Be a `Good Thing' for Networking Website [Bloomberg]

Facebook Inc. co-founder Chris Hughes, a former roommate of Chief
Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg, said he would like to see the
social-networking site sell shares to the public. “Having a public
offering to enable a diverse group of shareholders to have a chunk of
the company is a good thing,” Hughes, 27, said in an interview on
Bloomberg Television’s “InBusiness With Margaret Brennan.” “I’m sure
an IPO will happen at some point.”

Foxconn to ship iPad 2 by the end of February 2011 [Digitimes]

Foxconn Electronics' (Hon Hai Precision Industry's) plants in
Shenzhen, China have recently been notified they will ship Apple's
iPad 2 within the next 100 days with initial shipments to reach
400,000-600,000 units, according to sources from Taiwan-based
component makers. However, Foxconn declined to comment on its products
or clients. The sources pointed out that the iPad 2 will ship as soon
as the end of February in 2011.

Internet, Emerging Economies to Drive Worldwide Advertising Growth in 2011 [Bloomberg]

Worldwide advertising spending will continue to recover next year, led
by expanded Internet marketing and outlays in emerging economies,
according to researchers ZenithOptimedia Group Ltd. and Magna Global.
Spending will increase 4.6 percent next year, after “surprisingly
strong” 4.9 percent growth in 2010, said ZenithOptimedia, a media
buying company owned by Publicis Groupe SA. Magna, which tracks ad
sales not spending, projects 5.4 percent growth in 2011, following a
6.9 percent gain this year.
